A Rich History of Collaboration
The journey of EuroFM began in 1987 with an exploratory meeting hosted by Mr. Bart Bleker in The Netherlands, aiming to establish a pan-European network for facility management. This initiative laid the groundwork for what would become the most influential FM network in Europe.
On December 29, 1993, the European Facility Management Network (EuroFM) was officially registered, with foundational support from key organizations including:
- NEFMA (now FMN, the Dutch FM association)
- DFM (Danish FM association)
- The British Centre for Facilities Management, led by Professor Keith Alexander
- The CIB (International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction)
Key early leaders such as Mr. Bart Bleker, Mr. Bert Zwikker, Mr. Kjeld Nielsen, and Mr. Geoffrey Gidley played pivotal roles in shaping the network’s structure. Over the years, respected figures like Professor Keith Alexander, Lionel Prodgers, Jose Luis Garcia Cuartero, and Albert Pilger contributed to the growth and influence of EuroFM.
From 1993 to 2002, EuroFM played a pivotal role in shaping FM markets across 27 European countries. While FM developed differently in each nation—some with a focus on real estate and maintenance, others on services—EuroFM worked to unify these perspectives under a European framework.
By 2025, EuroFM celebrated 38 years of advancing Facility Management, transforming from a small network into a pan-European association representing the interests of the €650 billion FM sector, the largest business services market in Europe and the largest FM market worldwide. Collaborations with organizations like IFMA and events such as World Workplace Europe helped establish FM as a crucial business service across the continent. Universities also embraced FM by establishing research centers and dedicated faculties for Facility Management.
